Hi 👋🏼, I'm Alison.

A product designer in foggy San Francisco, currently spending most of my time on OuterSpatial, a platform for state and national parks, trail organizations, and conservation nonprofits. My work spans the mobile app and web. I design the systems and flows that help people discover the outdoors, stay engaged with it, and connect with the community around it, from photo challenges and check-ins to badges, safety and closure alerts, and the broader information architecture behind them.

Alongside that, I work on civic and public-sector products built for a broad general audience. More on that when it ships!

I'm drawn to design because it lets me take complicated systems and make them clear and usable for the people who rely on them. I care about the full arc of a project: understanding the problem, shaping the solution, and using research and data to learn whether it worked.

What I'm good at

Systems that stretch without breaking.

Component libraries and theming architecture flexible enough for any organization's brand, structured enough that nothing falls apart.

Multi-tenant and partner-facing design.

Building for organizations that each want it to feel like theirs, on a foundation that stays coherent across all of them.

Making complicated things feel obvious.

Complexity is usually a sequencing problem, not a content problem.

When I'm not designing, I'm probably:

- Collecting vinyls of my favorite albums
- Taking the 12,000th photo of my dog
- Making stuff at the pottery studio
- Playing mahjong with friends!
- Just hanging around :)
